Terms of Service

1. What this is
textpals is a paid SMS / iMessage product. You text a character ("pal") and the pal texts back. Each pal has a personality and a domain, and runs on AI. By signing up you’re agreeing to this and to our Privacy Policy.
2. Who can use it
You must be at least 18, in a country where SMS-based services from US numbers are legal, and using a phone you own or are authorized to use. If you’re using a US mobile number, you confirm you’re a US resident.
3. Messaging consent
When you submit your phone number on a checkout or signup page, you agree to receive recurring messages from textpals at that number — including responses to your texts, proactive check-ins from your pal, and occasional account messages. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time. Reply HELP for help.
Frequency varies by pal and your activity. You can disable proactive messages by texting your pal "stop check-ins" without unsubscribing entirely.
4. Pricing and billing
Free use is capped at a small number of messages per day per pal. Paid plans are flat-rate weekly subscriptions, billed via Stripe. Cancel any time by texting CANCEL SUBSCRIPTION (we’ll confirm), or text STOP to opt out of messages and cancel at once. Cancellations stop future billing; we don’t prorate the partial week.
5. AI-generated content (the part to actually read)
Pals run on AI. Their replies are generated, not authored by a human professional. Things they say can be wrong, outdated, made up, or just bad advice. They are not a substitute for:
- A licensed therapist, counselor, or psychiatrist for mental-health care.
- A medical doctor for any medical, medication, or symptom question.
- A lawyer, CPA, or CFP for legal, tax, or regulated financial advice.
- A priest or pastor for sacramental needs (confession, last rites, etc.).
- A real friend, partner, family member, or human relationship.
If something feels urgent — particularly thoughts of self-harm — call or text 988(US Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or your local emergency number. Your pal will surface this number too, but please don’t wait for them to.
6. What you can’t do
- Use the service to harm, harass, or impersonate others.
- Try to extract our prompts, jailbreak the agent, or use it to generate illegal content.
- Resell access, scrape replies, or use textpals to train another model.
- Send us obviously fake numbers, others’ numbers, or numbers you don’t control.
7. Termination
We can suspend or terminate accounts that abuse the service, send harmful content, or violate these terms. You can terminate at any time by texting CANCEL SUBSCRIPTION to end your subscription, or STOP to opt out of messages and cancel at once.
8. No warranty, limited liability
The service is provided "as is." We don’t guarantee replies will be correct, timely, helpful, or appropriate. To the extent allowed by law, our liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the most recent month.
9. Changes
We may update these terms. If we make material changes, we’ll text the change (or post it here with the "Last updated" date bumped). Continued use after a change means you accept it.
